First Reiki Clinic
Dr. Usui's closest student, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, took over from him, becoming the second Reiki Grand Master. He was a retired naval officer and founded the first ever Reiki clinic in Tokyo to carry on the tradition. There only severe cases could be treated with Reiki being applied round the clock.
But the death of Dr. Hayashi and the Second World War resulted in the closure of the clinic in 1941.
Hawayo Takata Cured by Reiki
Hawayo Takata, a citizen of the US born in 1900 on the Island of Hawaii of Japanese parents and a widow with two children, became Dr. Hayashi's successor. She was suffering from a number of serious diseases when an inner voice led her to Japan and seek healing there.
In Japan, while she lay on the operation table and was about to be operated upon, she again heard the inner voice which told her that the operation was not necessary. She asked the doctor whether there was any other method of treatment and was advised to go to Dr. Hayashi's Reiki clinic. She visited the place and was applied Reiki daily. After a few months she got completely cured and was in her normal health.
Dr Hayashi Reiki Clinic Hawaii
She learnt Reiki from Dr. Hayashi for one year and then returned to Hawaii. She was made a Reiki Master by Dr. Hayashi when the latter visited Hawaii and on his death in 1941 she became the Grand Master.
She herself applied Reiki to sufferers for many years and when she was in her seventies she started teaching young men the art of Reiki . When she died on December 11, 1980, she had left many Reiki masters in the US and Canada.
A few months before she died, Hawayo Takata and some of the Reiki masters founded the American Reiki Association to organize and co-ordiÂnate the passing on of the knowledge.
